Abstract
This paper maintains that the crisis in Cognitive Science is a result of two related problems. Firstly, the unsuitability of the assumptions built into the formalisms misappropriated by the dominant paradigm. Secondly, the monopoly the traditional paradigm has on the notions of “evidence” and
“explanation”. Particular reference is made to the field of semantics as it is thought that this provides a microcosm of the crisis as a whole.
